UX: Interaction Design Course

Course provided by design lab teaching interaction design, usability, sketching, information architecture, user flows, wireframing, and design patterns.

Project Summary

For this course, our project was to go through the design process to develop a grocery shopping app using a problem statement and product vision from a fictitious client, working with with user-centered personas and scenarios. The fictitious company was called “Good Market” and their problem was that their market share was declining each year despite consistent customer satisfaction. They had done some market research and discovered that it was likely due to the increase in online grocery ordering and delivery products. Good Market’s vision was to create a grocery shopping tool that helps customers quickly and easily shop and purchase groceries online, and then have them delivered promptly at little to no cost.

 Business Plan

I began by thinking about the best way to present the information. I was trying to break the mold of the traditional Venn Diagram while still achieving its effect. I read over the Business prompt and persona multiple times to get a good understanding of the full picture. I teased out the goals and pain points of the business and user by putting myself in their position.

 Competitive Analysis

I began researching different online grocery shopping options. I picked three competitors with slightly different styles and users they were targeting. I found that the services overviews and FAQs gave me a pretty good idea of the pros, cons, and how each service differed.

 Context of Use

Here I was able to answer some important questions about the product I was designing.

 Usability Competitive Analysis Report

I honed in on Giant’s online ordering products because the product we are building is similar in style. I tried to focus on the main functions of the product in order to discover usability positives and negatives. Overall I think Giant's product is fine but has a lot of usability issues. My satisfaction with the product was average and I think there are better products out there, which is where our product would come in.

Small Product Scope Sitemap

I created a sitemap for our new product. After completing a card sorting exercise with some lovely participants I was able to come up with grocery categories based on a limited number of items.

User Flow

Here I defined a user flow for how a user would go through the process of searching for items, adding them to their cart, creating an account, and placing an order for delivery.
