Play What Games
An invaluable resource for gamers to find the content they are looking for
The Problem
Video game subscription services are just as popular as streaming services, like Netflix, these days. However, there isn’t a service that lets you search for a video game across all of them at once, similar to how searching for a movie on the Prime Video app will tell you where to find a movie across many of the streaming services. Play What Games was attempting to consolidate where a gamer would have to go to find a game they were looking for into a single stop at one website.
Competitive Analysis
I started my design process by doing some competitive analysis on the subscription game services we’d be utilizing. I wanted to understand what the users would expect in terms of an interface and interactions. Below are some screenshots from the sites. I wanted to provide a fresh experience, but one that was also familiar by, for example, keeping the grid format of the games.
xBox Game Pass
PlayStation Now
Nintendo Switch online
Wireframes
Creating wireframes allowed me to quickly iterate on the design of the site. Knowing that the logo I had designed with the client was more detailed, I knew that I wanted it to take prominence on the page which required trying out many different layouts to see how a large logo would best fit. The search functionality was the main and most valuable feature of the site, therefore I wanted to draw attention to it as soon as the user hit the site.

Visual Design
For the color palette and logo of the platform I took inspiration from the Xbox controller and the RGB styling of many “gamer” products.
